Castles and forts, reenactments and fairs: come live our history with us

Choosing Garda Veneto means travelling back in time, starting from the three prehistoric pile dwellings of Peschiera del Garda, that are a UNESCO World Heritage site.
It means walking into ancient Roman times among the ruins and relics found in the many villages around the lake, and monuments like the Verona Arena and Roman Theatre, unique in the world.
It means exploring the Middle Ages, the Lombard legends about the fortress Rocca di Garda, sadly destroyed, and the castles of the Scala family in Lazise and Valeggio sul Mincio, Malcesine and Torri del Benaco, which are also home to museums!

Experiencing history also means diving 27 metres just off the Lazise harbour, to view the sunken 16th century warship of the fleet of the Most Serene Republic of Venice.

This land has always been considered a strategic crossroads, and many have tried to conquer it. Here Napoleon defeated the Austrians in the historical battle of Rivoli in 1797.

In 1800 it was crucial to the history of Italy and its Wars of Independence, Peschiera del Garda at the forefront: under Hapsburg domination, it was the stronghold of the “Quadrilatero” fortresses defence system, conquered by the Piedmontese in 1848.

Many emblems keep history alive, such as the 19 th century defence walls of Forte Rivoli, and events such as the Re-enactment of Otto II in Lazise or the Medieval Fête of Affi.

Come and experience our history!
