What are Bisse?

They are typical Garda boats, used in standing rowing or Venetian rowing (a special technique in which a single oarsman can be enough to propel the boat forward).

They are about 10.5 metres long, have a flat bottom and are equipped with 4 scales (called ‘forcole’), one for each of the standing rowers (top rowing). The absence of a keel not only allows for remarkable manoeuvrability, but also gives the craft greater stability. For centuries it has been a traditional fishing and racing boat in the countries bordering Lake Garda.
