Additionally, it long held the title of the best-selling car in the world, with 21,529,464 units sold, and it is currently the fourth car in the world by number of units produced. In 1999, it was named among the five most influential cars of the 20th century.

The National Club of Beetle Lovers of Verona promotes a non-competitive sporting, recreational, and cultural activity aimed at highlighting and representing the epochal historical aspects of the car, particularly all Volkswagen vehicles with rear air-cooled engines.

It lends its collaboration to favor and disseminate all those technical knowledge useful for the restoration, maintenance, and conservation of these interesting cars. It fosters the amateur spirit, promoting events of an environmental tourism nature, parades, and exhibitions for cultural purposes.
