Fort Degenfeld (or Fort Piovezzano) is an Austrian fort built between 1859 and 1861, commissioned by Field Marshal Josef Radetzky. It has a trapezoidal shape, with a strategic view towards Lake Garda and is located on a hill to the south of the village of Piovezzano, at an altitude of about 200 meters. Inside, there are various rooms that were then used as warehouses and accommodations that could meet the needs of the garrison for relatively long periods (in times of war, it could house up to 80 soldiers). An underground cistern equipped with stone channels was used to collect rainwater for use. The fort was surrounded by a large moat that has been filled in recent years. Noteworthy are its artillery positions armed with 12 cannons and the sloping staircase that leads to the parapet. Very beautiful and elegantly maintained is the large portal at the front of the gorge.
