In the municipality of Ferrara di Monte Baldo, at 1232 m of altitude on the eastern side of the massif, stands the Botanical Garden of Novezzina, created in 1989 by the Comunità Montana del Baldo.
The Garden extends for about 20,000 square meters, collecting native plants and flowers of Baldo, cultivated and presented for educational purposes, dissemination, conservation and scientific research. In the Botanical Garden there are hundreds of native species of Monte Baldo with the exception of species imported from other environments. Microenvironments and ecosystems similar as much as possible to the original ones have been recreated: from the rocks to the under beech wood, from the pasture to the wetlands of the pool. I
t has been tried to reconstruct the environments of the Baldo in a limited surface, thus facilitating the visitor the direct knowledge of the species, avoiding to cover considerable distances and differences in altitude to find these plants. In the Botanical Garden you can observe various endemic species (are those species, both flora and fauna, which survived isolated on Monte Baldo during the glaciation period, above the level of the glaciers of Garda and Adige, while elsewhere disappeared because of the ice), such as the Campanula petraea and the Primula spectabilis, the Carex baldensis and the Phisoplexis comosa, but also various species of orchids and others, perhaps less showy but no less important. All the present species are indicated by special tags engraved with the name of the family, the genus, the species, the Italian name and the vernacular name (if it is known).
The new path available to people with disabilities promotes greater accessibility to the structure.
In addition, at Rifugio Novezzina it is possible to both stay overnight and taste high-quality, zero-mile dishes.
