The tall and imposing sixteenth century city wall with a pentagonal shape fully encloses the old town, a true jewel of architecture, art and culture.
Equally interesting in its uniqueness is the area outside the Venetian walls. An enchanting mix of water, light and colour surrounding the city, including the high ramparts and bastions along the banks: inviting settings for walks, by boat or canoe.
Water flows slowly in the majestic river Mincio. Canoe up to the Salionze dam, paddling between reeds and tall poplars. Or go by bike on the right bank along the bike path that will take you as far south as Mantua on the discovery path of nature and history. Discover the lush green hinterland and explore the vineyards, wineries, the agriturismo farms and trattorias where you can find natural products such as meats, cheeses, vegetables, fruits, honey and dishes made with lake fish and red and white meat. The prized product of the area is the famous white Lugana DOC wine especially recommended paired with fish.
A source of pride and joy is the beautiful Shrine of Madonna del Frassino, a destination of many pilgrims, due to the apparition of the Madonna in 1511.
