The story of the Scaramellini family is closely intertwined with the founding of the historic Scaramellini Distillery. With direct descent from the legendary Gràpat of Campolcino from centuries past, the founder of the distillery, Master Distiller Antonio Scaramellini, in the early 1900s decided to bring his craft to the wonderful and unspoiled locations that still today host this extraordinary artisanal company, Lake Garda. Captivated by the place and the great winemaking tradition of Verona, he began the construction of the imposing copper distiller made of refractory bricks, a true work of art born from the centuries-old tradition of his Valley of San Giacomo.
Implementing all the precautions and valuable advice passed down from generation to generation, Antonio then began distilling the first pomace of Bardolino, the typical wine of this DOC area, amidst the great excitement of his wife Jole and the little ones Gianbattista and Gabriella, and the wonder and astonishment of the local people. "The carts overflowing with pomace arrived pulled by horses," recounts Renato, a historical worker of the Scaramellini Distillery since its founding, and it was an immense joy every time the first customers returned to request our products again, telling us that everyone in the area was talking about them.
