The Custoza Cycling Ring is about 65 km long and develops on low-traffic mixed roads, 70% of which are paved. The route can be traveled in both directions and allows exploration of the villages of Bussolengo, Sommacampagna, Sona, and Valeggio sul Mincio. The path is also recognizable thanks to the signs indicating the cycling route.
A pleasant itinerary of 65 km, passable in both directions that, between classic low-traffic roads and favored cycle-pedestrian contingencies, crosses the municipalities of Bussolengo, Sommacampagna, Sona, Valeggio, and Villafranca, encouraging a detailed exploration of our territory and rural tourism.
Starting from Sommacampagna, a well-equipped center close to the toll booth of the same name, one ascends the perimeter of the Ring in an anti-clockwise direction via Route 35, which explores the Morenic Hills of Fondo (formed by the flow of the prehistoric Benaco Glacier), Sona and Palazzolo, up to Bussolengo, a mandatory stop to discover the Balconata on the Adige, facing the Veronese Prealps. From the same village of Palazzolo, where King Carlo Alberto of Savoy observed the Battle of Pastrengo, it is possible to intersect Route 30 leading to San Giorgio in Salici and San Rocco, from where the Pedemontana Alpine Cycle Path, known as Route 9, proceeds towards the Mincio.
Thus, following the left bank of the River, via Salionze and Monzambano, on the tracks of the former Littorina, one arrives at Borghetto… in the shade of the Visconti Bridge, then climbs through the village, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, to reach Valeggio sul Mincio and with it the connection to Route 8A leading to Villafranca di Verona. Finally, returning a bit to Route 16, one arrives in Custoza right in the shadow of the famous Ossuary.
The developed accommodation competence of the tourist infrastructures makes this itinerary, enclosed between the slopes of the Mincio to the West, the Adige to the Northeast, and the millennia-old Via Postumia to the Southeast, a small paradise to enjoy in company, under the banner of an unforgettable cycling experience.
