The project is by architect Leonardo Rossi, who positioned the church with the facade facing south. The square in front of the church, named "la Resa," is dominated by the statues of Saint Peter, Saint John the Baptist, and Saint Paul, which are located on the roof. In 1936, the church was seriously damaged due to an earthquake, but restoration work began two years later. The church has a nave and features a series of monumental columns with composite capitals along the walls. On either side of the apse, there are two large windows with stained glass depicting angels in vibrant colors. The frescoes are by Pio Piatti and depict: on the side walls, the life and death of the Patron Saint; on the ceiling, at the height of the presbytery, "Saint John the Baptist in glory" and in the center, "Saint John the Baptist preaching in the desert." The church has three altars made of inlaid marble of various colors, among which the main altar stands out. The minor altars, located in two side chapels, are dedicated to the Virgin and to the Crucifix.
