Palazzo dei Capitani is so called because it hosted the Captain of Lake Garda, the magistrate who represented the authority of the Serenissima Republic of Venice on Lake Garda, and who had the task of supervising safety and preventing smuggling.
The Palace overlooks the main square of the town next to the port; it is a building from the 14th-15th century, in Gothic-Venetian style, which once overlooked directly onto the lake, so much so that boats were tied to rings fixed in the wall under the portico.
The square was built later and it seems that the palace was the first residence of the Carlotti family in Garda.
