The Chiaretto di Bardolino is the rosé wine from the Veneto shore of Lake Garda. Its origin dates back to Roman times, when the use of the wine press was introduced in the imperial rustic villas of Garda, allowing the grapes to be pressed without the wine taking on a dark color, remaining instead a “vinum clarum” or “Claretum”, meaning a “light wine” or “Chiaretto”.
The area of the initial spread of Chiaretto was most likely that portion of the hills of Bardolino surrounding the church of San Vito di Cortelline and the Rocca. The church of San Vito, in fact, not only displays Lombard sculptures dedicated to wine but is also built upon the remains of a Roman villa, where wine was certainly produced using the wine press.
By the choice of the Municipality of Bardolino, for some years now, the entire area around the Rocca of Bardolino, from the church of San Vito to the Romanesque church of San Pietro, passing through the Camaldolese Hermitage, the former Priory of San Colombano, and the Tusini Salesian Institute, has been named the locality of Chiaretto di Bardolino. It is in that same lush green area, entirely with lake views, that the Chiaretto di Bardolino Run will take place.
The event, designed to share a moment of celebration in a charming natural setting, has a charitable purpose: to raise funds for the Salesian Educational Village, which works every day to support the younger generation in their growth journey.
