Verona among the

Great Wine Capitals

Great Wine Capitals and the Veronese Wine Region

Verona in the Great Wine Capitals Global Network

The Great Wine Capitals Global Network is an international alliance connecting some of the world’s most prestigious wine capitals and their renowned wine regions. Since 2016, Verona has proudly represented Italy within this exclusive network, strengthening its position as a leading destination for wine culture and wine tourism on the global stage.
Being part of the network enhances the international promotion of the Veronese territory and its outstanding wine heritage, including highly wine-focused areas such as the Veneto side of Lake Garda, which forms an integral part of the province’s wider production system. At the same time, it encourages collaboration among institutions, businesses, wineries, and tourism operators, fostering shared projects dedicated to the promotion of local wine culture, landscapes, and traditions.

Founded in 1999, the Great Wine Capitals network brings together eleven internationally acclaimed cities and regions united by a deep-rooted wine identity and excellence in wine production. The member capitals are:

Adelaide (Australia), Bilbao-Rioja (Spain), Bordeaux (France), Hawke’s Bay (New Zealand), Lausanne (Switzerland), Mainz (Germany), Mendoza (Argentina), Porto (Portugal), San Francisco–Napa Valley (USA), Valparaíso–Casablanca Valley (Chile), and Verona (Italy).

The Best Of Wine Tourism Awards

Among the network’s flagship initiatives is the international Best Of Wine Tourism Awards, celebrating excellence in wine tourism and hospitality. Each year, the awards honour wineries, hospitality venues, and tourism operators that distinguish themselves through outstanding service, innovation, sustainability, and the creation of memorable wine experiences.

The awards are presented across seven categories:

  • Architecture and Landscape
  • Art and Culture
  • Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences
  • Accommodation and Hospitality
  • Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices
  • Wine and Food Experiences
  • Wine Tourism Services

Winning businesses gain international visibility throughout the Great Wine Capitals network and are featured in the official guide Verona Wine and Olive Oil Tourism. For local enterprises, the awards represent a valuable opportunity to strengthen their international profile and further position Verona as a premier wine tourism destination.
