BEYOND THE LAKE, THE VERONA AREA
From Lake Garda Veneto, the city of Verona is just a short and easy journey away, thanks to excellent transport connections. Its strategic position makes the lake an ideal base for discovering the wider Verona area in all its variety.
Beyond the city, the landscape opens up into a remarkable succession of environments. Lake shores give way to rolling vineyard-covered hills, which gradually rise into the mountains of Lessinia, while historic villages and fertile plains complete a territory of striking contrast and harmony. This extraordinary diversity makes the surroundings of Lake Garda Veneto one of the most varied and rewarding destinations in Northern Italy, ideal for a holiday filled with different experiences every day.
The Verona area is traditionally divided into four main destination brands, each expressing a distinct identity of this region:
Lessinia is the true mountain heart of the Verona area, within the Lessinia Natural Park, where untouched landscapes, forests, alpine meadows, and sweeping open views create a setting of rare beauty. It is the perfect destination for hiking, outdoor activities, and slow tourism in close contact with nature. Between traditional mountain huts and refuges, visitors can discover local specialties such as Monte Veronese DOP cheese and experience the area’s rural heritage and alpine traditions. In winter, Lessinia turns into an ideal destination for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, while throughout the year it offers a rich network of scenic trails and outdoor experiences.
Just minutes from the Veneto shore of Lake Garda, Valpolicella is one of the most renowned wine regions in the Verona area, world-famous for Amarone and its gently rolling vineyard-covered hills. Among wineries, vineyards, and rural villages, visitors can enjoy authentic wine tourism experiences, from guided cellar tours to tastings of locally produced wines. Beyond its wine culture, the area also offers nature trails, Venetian villas, and cultural itineraries, making it a perfect destination for immersive experiences.
The Soave–Est Veronese area is a scenic hilly landscape of great historical and cultural value, internationally recognized for Soave DOC wine, produced mainly from Garganega grapes. The vineyards shape a distinctive rural landscape, home to farms, wineries, and a strong tradition of sustainable agriculture. The area offers a variety of cultural and outdoor itineraries, from medieval villages such as Soave and its iconic Scaliger Castle, to walking and cycling routes through vineyards and rolling hills.
South of Verona lies the Pianura dei Dogi, a wide and elegant rural plain where farmland, rice fields, and waterways create a peaceful and authentic countryside landscape. The area is rich in historic residences, Venetian villas, rural estates, and traditional farm buildings, bearing witness to its past as a place of agricultural life and noble countryside retreats. Today, the Pianura dei Dogi offers cycling routes, horseback trails, and itineraries that combine nature, culture, villages, and local flavors.
