The Chiesetta Santuario di Santa Maria di Pol is one of the most characteristic places of worship in the Pastrengo area, immersed in the tranquility of the valley of the same name. Built in 1623, it arose around an ancient image of the Madonna with Child, considered miraculous and always at the center of popular devotion. According to tradition, certain miraculous events related to the painting, including the apparition of the Virgin and the liberation of a young shepherdess, prompted the locals to build the sanctuary with the community's offerings.
The church features a simple and harmonious facade, which still bears the marks of the damage suffered during wartime events. Inside, with a single nave, one can admire elegant frescoes dedicated to the Virgin Mary, a ceiling decorated with Renaissance motifs, and a precious Baroque altar that houses the ancient image of the Madonna from which the sanctuary originated. The walls are enriched with stations of the cross and paintings that depict episodes from the life of Mary.
Particularly striking is the presence of numerous ex votos, testaments to the deep devotion of the faithful and the graces received over the centuries.
Even today, the sanctuary represents a destination for reflection and spirituality, as well as a precious testimony to the history, art, and religious traditions of the valley of Pol.
The chapel Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Pol is currently open only on the occasion of Marian holidays. The main feast of the Sanctuary is celebrated on August 15: Feast of the Assumption into Heaven of the B.V. Mary.
