An elegant eighteenth-century church that tells the story and identity of Cavalcaselle
The Parish Church of Saints Philip and James is the main place of worship in Cavalcaselle and represents one of the most significant examples of 18th-century religious architecture in the area.
Its origins date back at least to the 15th century, when there was a small chapel, later elevated to parish status. Beginning in 1755, to accommodate the growing population, the building was completely expanded and rebuilt according to the design of the Veronese architect Adriano Cristofali. The church is distinguished by its original oval plan, inspired by the great models of Venetian baroque architecture, a rare artistic solution of considerable value.
The interior, bright and elegant, houses valuable works, including the altarpiece by Antonio Cavaggioni, depicting the Madonna of the Angels with Saints Philip and James, created in 1760. Over the centuries, the church has undergone various conservation interventions, including the restoration of the roof and the bell tower in 1982 and the arrangement of the external area in 1996, testament to the constant attention given to this important place of faith and identity for the community of Cavalcaselle.
