Continuing from the Church of San Pietro in Cattedra along Via Roma, one reaches Piazza Carlo Alberto where we can admire the historic seat of the city government: the Town Hall.
Its façade is characterized by a tall entrance portal, embedded between strong rusticated columns that support the balcony from which the door of the vast council chamber opens. Above this, in perfect neoclassical style, the upper tympanum, which includes the clock, is topped by an elegant marble bell tower with a weathervane, emphasizing the rigorous neoclassical forms of the structure.
During the French domination (1805-1815), the palace underwent substantial transformations. The ground floor was handed over to private individuals and transformed into homes and shops: here the country's first coffee shop was opened.
