From Monte Baldo to Malcesine along the western slopes

The tour

This is a difficult route which, from Tratto Spino, brings you to Malcesine down along path 11 and the new forrest track as far as San Michele. From San Michele you go back to Malcesine via Faigo.

There are 11km to cycle over a drop of 1800m in height.
There are some particularly difficult parts which need a good level of technical ability. You should use a bike with full suspension.

Going down the western flanks, and especially at the beginning of the route, you will have some spectacular views over Lake Garda.

Trail description

From the top station of the Cable Car at Tratto Spino, go downhill and take the first path on the right which descends under the cable
car pylons.

As you go into the woods, you will find a difficult part of this route: the track surface changes and becomes rockier with loose slippery rocks.

At the first clearing, you will find some benches near where start 3 paths: take the lefthand path that goes into the woods.

At the fork in the road after the cable car pylon, go straight on and, at the second fork go right carrying on down the forrest track.

The new forrest track is on loose rocks and there are some places where you can pedal.

Go on until you get to the tarmac road at Prai which will take you on to San Michele. Here you follow signs to Faigo.

The path joins a rough track which takes you in front of a group of houses and then goes across a wide field.
The next part of the route is also a difficult one - you go down the path on the left which has a very rough base. This brings you to Fubia.

Go left at the road junction towards Monte Fubia and go downhill until you reach the Via Panoramica.
Go across this road and carry on downhill, first on a cement road and then on a mule track.

At the end of the mule track, turn left onto the Via Navene Vecchia which will take you back to Malcesine.
