Trekking to Saints Benigno and Caro's hermitage

The tour

A medium difficulty circular tour from Malcesine to the hermitage of the Saints Benigno and Caro, passing through Fiabi, along path 659.

A 14,6 kilometer trek awaits you involving 1300 m of elevation gain and loss.

There are many panoramic spots on the gorges and crags of Mount Baldo, over Lake Garda with some suggestive sections inside the wood. The hermitage where, according to the tradition, the saints Benigno and Caro lived in the IX century is worth a visit.

Description of the route

From the station in Malcesine head south and take the Via Panoramica on the left, right after Ideal Hotel, on the left.

After the first haipin turn, take the first uphill road on the right.You can find a signpost to path 659 on the wall. Keep right; the path starts after a steep concrete ascent. The ascent is 2 km long, with some steep slopes: it's about 1 hour walk.

Keep left at the crossroad, taking an uphill road for about a km until the path starts to become flat. Keep right and follow the road which starts to go up and down until you reach the hermitage of the Saints Benigno and Caro.

The descent starts at the hermitage on a mule track leading to Cassone. This section is quite steep: there is an elevation loss of about 850 m in just 3 km.

You'll find some caves and war constructions.

Once you get to the lake, in Cassone, keep going on a flat street to the north and go back to Malcesine along the cycle lane and the lakefront.

The starting point of the route is at the bus station on the Via Gardesana from the Tourist Information Centre.
